CHPA Lends Its Support for Senate Confirmation of FDA Commissioner

Association welcomes progress made on establishing permanent Agency head

Washington, D.C. (December 7, 2006)—The Consumer Healthcare Products Association issued the following statement in support of the Senate’s recent confirmation of Acting Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Andrew C. von Eschenbach, M.D.:

"CHPA commends the U.S. Senate for its recent confirmation of Acting FDA Commissioner Andrew von Eschenbach, M.D., to permanently head the Agency. Dr. von Eschenbach’s scientific and medical credentials will serve the Agency and its staff as they work on issues important to the American public, including ensuring consumer access to a growing range of over-the-counter medicines and nutritional supplements.

"FDA plays a critical and increasingly important role in protecting the health of all Americans, even as consumers are taking a more active role in their own healthcare. CHPA pledges to continue to work with the Agency, and its new commissioner, to make sure that consumers have the safe and beneficial products they rely upon and the information to use them correctly."
