Healthcare Association Elects Tim Hayes Chair of the Board

Bayer exec to head national OTC, nutritional supplement trade association

Washington, D.C. (March 19, 2004)—The Board of Directors of the Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA) today named Timothy G. Hayes, chair of the board. Hayes serves as senior vice president and region head, North America, Consumer Care Division, Bayer HealthCare LLC. The announcement was made at the Association’s Annual Executive Conference taking place in the nation’s capital March 17-19. Hayes succeeds Richard K. Green, chief operating officer of Blistex Inc., as the head of the over-the-counter (OTC) medicine and nutritional supplement trade group.

Hayes has served on the Association’s Board of Directors since 2000. He was appointed to CHPA’s Executive Committee and named chair of the Finance Committee the same year. He became a vice chair of CHPA in 2001. Hayes was named chair-elect during CHPA’s Annual Executive Conference in 2003.

“Tim Hayes has been an industry leader for a number of years and takes the reins of CHPA during a tremendously significant era for the Association and the industry it serves,” said CHPA President Linda A. Suydam, D.P.A. In 2004, CHPA will continue promoting OTC eligibility in flexible spending healthcare accounts and advocating for OTC tax deductibility, will release a study that analyzes the financial impact of OTC medicines in part of the cough/cold area, and has formed an educational foundation to reinforce safe medicine use.

Hayes joined the Bayer Consumer Care Division in 1992, bringing with him 12 years of experience in the consumer products business at The Quaker Oats Company. Since then, he has held positions of increasing responsibility in Bayer Consumer Care trade marketing, sales, and strategic business management, serving most recently as senior vice president, Consumer Care U.S.A. In his current position, Hayes is responsible for Bayer’s OTC and dietary supplement businesses in the United States and Canada.

Hayes is a member of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores Advisory Board. In 1998 and 1999, he chaired the American Heart Association Morris County American Heart Walk, which led the state of New Jersey in funds raised. Hayes received his degree in business and marketing from Furman University in South Carolina. He resides in New Jersey with his wife and three sons.
