CHPA Taps John Gay as Vice President, Government Affairs

Washington, D.C. (March 6, 2012)—The Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA) today announced that John Gay will serve as CHPA’s vice president of government affairs. Gay will begin his duties on March 8.

Reporting to CHPA President and CEO Scott M. Melville, Gay will oversee the association’s state and federal government affairs departments, its political action committee, and will serve as a member of the association’s senior management team.

“John brings a wealth of government affairs, association, and corporate experience to CHPA and has a proven record of legislative achievement,” Melville said.   “He is ideally suited to lead our association’s government affairs team.”

“His keen political insight, seasoned legislative perspective, and ability to build broad, diverse coalitions will enhance CHPA’s overall advocacy efforts,” Melville added.

A graduate of the University of Virginia and a native of Georgia, Gay began his career in the office of former U.S. Senator Mack Mattingly (R-Ga.) and proceeded to a series of increasingly responsible positions with Anderson Worldwide, the Hotel & Lodging Association, the International Franchise Association, and the National Restaurant Association, where he managed a large staff and oversaw an active federal-state government affairs department.

Most recently, Gay was president and CEO of the Natural Products Association, the nation’s largest and oldest association representing retailers and manufacturers of natural products.
