Elizabeth Assey Joins CHPA’s Communications Team

Capitol Hill veteran to head Association’s media relations efforts

Washington, D.C. (March 4, 2004)—The Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA) today announced the addition of Elizabeth Assey to CHPA’s Communications department. As the director of communications and media relations, Assey will serve as the Association’s primary point of contact with the press and will assist with efforts to promote various key CHPA initiatives, including communicating the eligibility of over-the-counter (OTC) medicines in healthcare flexible spending accounts, achieving tax-deductible status for OTCs, and demonstrating the value OTCs offer in the U.S. healthcare system, among others.

“Elizabeth brings with her a tremendous amount of experience, both with the media and in government,” said CHPA President Linda A. Suydam, D.P.A. “Both will be assets to CHPA’s Communications department and the Association as a whole as we proceed with our very aggressive program of work.”

Assey spent the last eight years in Washington, D.C., on Capitol Hill, first with former Congressman Bob Clement (D-Tenn.) and then with Congressman Peter Deutsch (D-Fla.), during which time she served in both Deutsch’s legislative shop as well as his press operation. She served as the congressman’s liaison for all House Energy and Commerce Committee activity and was the primary spokesperson for Deutsch, including during the Florida presidential recount of 2000. Assey holds a B.A. in French and English from Vanderbilt University and is a native of South Carolina.
